GEMS2.0

Graduate Employability Management Scheme (GEMS)

The Graduate Employability Management Scheme (GEMS) 2.0 is a ‘place and train” government capacity building initiative. The programme is developed with the aim to mobilize graduates facing structural unemployment, or “sunset” industrial skills by equipping them with skill sets that are highly relevant and to “sunrise” industry where talent demands outstrips the supply and where potential for growth is high and prospects are bright.

Objectives of GEMS2.0

The overall purpose of GEMS is to convert graduates challenged with finding suitable and relevant employment, into employable graduates that can meaningfully contribute to the NKEA’s pillars in particular, and other emerging industries as a whole.
The main thrust of the programme is to:
  • Reduce talent shortage in NKEA
  • Focus on industry targeted by ETP
  • Meet industry needs
  • Act as another talent pipeline for the industry
  • Promote experiential learning
  • Prioritized domain-specific training to enable effective contribution
  • Ensure high income jobs for graduates

GEMS 2.0 Framework

Talent Segment

GEMS Engineering Support (Segment 1)

OVERVIEW
The programme is specifically developed to help address the talent needs in the areas of engineering support, production and assembly practices, and quality assurance in E&E manufacturing sector.

Depending on their domain specific modules, they will be able to:
  • Apply hands on knowledge in automation and work out automated manufacturing solutions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, improve manufacturing process, equipment or techniques to reduce costs and improve reliability.
  • Enhance their knowledge in Test & Assembly, building test sequence algorithms and exposed to failure analysis techniques.
  • Skill up with PCB design and fabrication technology, which includes soldering skills in assembly, modifications and rework areas.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
Participants will undertake cluster of modules according to the company’s requirements attributed to the type of work and depth involved in engineering support, production and quality assurance function needed by the company.

GEMS Manufacturing Technologist (Segment 3)

OVERVIEW
Manufacturing technology is a field of study that focuses on improving the manufacturing process, equipment or techniques to reduce costs and improve reliability. GEMs participant will work in SME E&E sub-sectors (like consumer electronics, Industrial Electronic , Electrical Appliances and etc) as Supervisor/ Engineer in R&D, Production, QA and Engineering Department.
