What is NTEP?
The National Talent Enhancement Programme (NTEP) is a 12-month traineeship program initiated by the Government under the Economic Transformation Programme’s (ETP) Human Capital Development (HCD). As an initiative under the Strategic Reform Initiative (SRI) program, it is targeted mainly towards those in the Electrical and Electronics sector (E&E). The objective of the NTEP is to accelerate the development of graduates and skilled professional workforce through a partnership and collaboration with the private sector. It aimsto build a talent pool of skilled workforce via industry relevant skills training and on-the-job practical exposure.
Why Should You Join the NTEP?
Trainees will develop the necessary skills via a partnership with E&E companies. Other participating companies are those that have projects, processes or products that are focused on green technology and require talent with an engineering background.As part of the training, trainees may be placed on projects and job assignments. Successful trainees may advance into full time employment depending on their performance during their traineeship. The NTEP targets a 100% employability rate upon completion of the traineeship as it also forms part of the recruitment and development pipeline for participating companies.
Who Can Join NTEP?
The NTEP program is open to two (2) types of candidates: fresh graduates and those with work experience. Fresh graduates who are looking to join the NTEP must have a Diploma or Degree in any Engineering discipline with a CGPA of at least 2.5 and/or have been unemployed for more than six (6) months. Candidates with 1 – 2 years of relevant working experience are also encouraged to apply for the program. Trainees who are selected into the program will receive a monthly allowance, at market-rate level, during their 12-month traineeship at participating companies.Agencies within the NTEP
There are five implementing agencies that act as coordinators of the NTEP. They are tasked to select participating companies, recruiting and administering trainees as well as monitoring and measuring the success of NTEP.These agencies are:
- Akademi Teknologi Hijau Sdn Bhd, Melaka (ATH)
- East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC)
- Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA)
- Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA)
- Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC)*
*SHRDC is responsible for the Greater KL / Klang Valley region
