Who needs training on the IPC-A-610?

Any person who is responsible for quality and reliability of electronic assemblies :- i.e. quality supervisors and engineering manufacturing supervisors with assembly responsibilities would all make excellent candidates for training.

How Does the IPC-A-610 Training and Certification Programme Works?

The IPC-A-610 training and certification programme has two tiers of instruction - Certified Trainers and Application Specialists.

Candidates are sent by their companies to receive four days of training in the IPC-A-610 document at an approved certification training centre.

Once they have completed the course, and have passed the examination, Trainers are then qualified to train their company’s workers in the IPC-A-610 Application Specialist training programme.

This programme will greatly assist companies dedicated to ISO-9000 or other quality assurance initiatives. As the IPC specification is a widely accepted standard, this will have immediate recognition throughout the electronics industry.

Topics Covered in the IPC-A-610 Training Course

  • Role and responsibilities of trainers
  • Handling electronic assemblies
  • Criteria for hardware installation - threaded fasteners, connector pins
  • Soldering requirements for terminals and plated through holes, including lead free
  • Surface mounted criteria for chip components, cylindrical components, leadless chip carriers, leaded components and ball grid arrays
  • Requirements for component damage
  • Criteria for laminate conditions, cleanliness and coatings
  • Acceptance criteria for solder less wrap requirements and jumper wires
  • Requirements for high voltage applications
  • Using the lesson plan and materials effectively, and a review of training skills

Benefits of Certification

On successful completion of the examination the student will receive the IPC-A-610 Trainer Certificate. This is valid for 2 years after the course completion date.

On successfully completing the course, the trainer will receive all the necessary training materials to carry out the Application Specialist courses.

This will include the following:

  • A CD-ROM which illustrates every aspect of the IPC-A-610 training and documented information
  • A trainer guide - this will provide complete directions for the Application Specialist training and test
  • The IPC-A-610 revision D “Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies”
  • The IPC-T-50 “Terms and Definitions”
  • The Application Specialist test and evaluation forms

Application Specialist materials, student manuals and course certificates can only be purchased by a Certified Trainer.
