MALAYSIA TO HOST THE 1st ASIA SYMPOSIUM on QUALITY ELECTRONIC DESIGN (ASQED)
Selangor, Malaysia - Leading international and local electronic industry leaders will gather in Malaysia as the country hosts the “1st Asia Symposium on Quality Electronic Design” (ASQED) in Kuala Lumpur on July 15-16 2009.
This symposium will be co-organized by Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Malaysian Institute of Microsystems (MIMs) and The International Society for Quality Electronic Design (ISQED.org) with support from Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA). This symposium also gathers leading industrial and educational entity such as Intel Microelectronics (M) Sdn. Bhd., STATS ChipPAC Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Swinburne University of Technology as committee members.

The 1st ASQED 2009 spans over two days, in three parallel tracks, hosting over 60 technical presentations; several keynote speakers, tutorials and other informal meetings. Conference proceedings are planned to be published by IEEE and posted in the digital library. This symposium aims to bridge the gap among electronic design tools and processes, integrated circuit technologies, processes & manufacturing, to achieve design quality in Asia.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS
MALAYSIAN INDUSTRY-GOVERNMENT GROUP FOR HIGH TECHNOLOGY (MIGHT) was launched as an independent and non-profit organization that is driven by a membership drawn from both the public and private sectors. 8. Technical Professional Up-skilling Program for Texas Instruments, Malaysia ~ 26-03-2009
SHRDC and Texas Instrument Malaysia have soft launched the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology program for Technician on 22 Jan 2009, the program will kick-off on 28 Mar 2009 with the first module. A total of 30 technicians have been selected by Texas Instruments to under-go the part-time in-house program. The program is expected to complete by Dec 2010.
The objective of this program is to provide the opportunity for the technician to climb the career ladder by first pursing the Advanced Diploma and later Degree. On completion of course duration the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology will be conferred by Box Hill Institute, Melbourne, Australia.
10. TIM/SHRDC Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology ~ 30-03-2009
TIM/SHRDC Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology Kick Off on 28 Mar 2009
The Advance Diploma of Engineering Technology was officially started off with the first module on 28 Mar 2009. The number 28 is special as the kick off was on 28 Mar, there are a total of 28 students registered for the program and the birth date of our ED. The student came as early as 8:00am to attend the program briefing which was conducted by Ab Aziz and Kevin Tan.
After the program briefing and program logistics, the first module was conducted by Christine Vaz.
SHRDC has successfully completed the 1st ISO 9001:2000 surveillance audit by LRQA on 31 Mar 2009. This is a mandatory external audit after completing the certificate renewal process. There are several continual improvement suggestions given by the auditor to strengthen the SHRDC’s QMS. The next challenge for SHRDC is to transition to ISO9001:2008 from the current ISO9001:2000 standard. Thank you for all those that are involved in the auditing process.
Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
SHRDC’S MIMs certification partner; IPC is bringing in Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies (J-STD-001) certification course here in Malaysia this coming June 8th. The certification has immediate recognition, legitimacy and value throughout the electronic industry.
Among the topics which will be thought are introduction to the process requirements of J-STD-001, focus are mainly on wires and terminals, through-hole and surface mount technology, inspection, inspection methodology, and process control. Each topic would require participant to have hands-on training exercise.
Now, SHRDC has an industry developed and approved comprehensive, hands-on solder training and certification program based on J-STD-001 that gives companies all the tools they need to increase employee skills and performance.

25. SHRDC welcomed Minister in Prime Minister Department's visit ~ 29-06-2009
Minister in Prime Minister Department Official Visit to SHRDC
Official Visit by Tan Sri Nor Mohamed bin Yakcop to SHRDC on 15 June 2009. In his speech, he said the unemployment was not a serious problem in the country at this point of time. He said although there were some workers who have been asked to take Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) or take long leave, that situation could be a blessing in disguise. It could provide the workers an opportunity to undergo retraining at training centres throughout the country including at the SHRDC.
26. IA Communication Series 2009 Successfully Launched ~ 29-06-2009
IA Communication Series at SHRDC, was coordinated by Mr. Kevin (SHRDC)
An Industrial Automation Communication Series was held in SHRDC last Wednesday (24th June 2009). Both local and overseas speakers from industries and academic expertise were invited to share the advancement and emergence of technologies that help the companies to achieve the desired operational excellence and at the same time execute “go green” initiatives.
A total of 55 participants from more than 30 companies benefited from this seminar with topics on Digital Factory Simulation, Wastewater Treatment Systems and RFID Application. The learning experience was then further enhanced in the breakout sessions with demonstrations and hands-on activities conducted by the invited speakers. These sessions were a huge success and received good feedback from the attendees.

Council members, officers, instructors and students from Negri Sembilan Skills Development Centre (NSSDC) pay a study visit to SHRDC on 24 June 2009. They were briefed on SHRDC courses and programs, as well as having tours on SHRDC vicinity
28. IPC-A-610D Certification for Application Specialist (CIS) ~ 13-07-2009
This is a 3-days class for employees who are required to be certified to IPC-A-610D. The class is designed to fulfill IPC-A-610D standards which comply with Classes I, II, and III.
For numerous organizations, IPC-A-610D certification is required for anyone who holds a solder certification, who is an inspector, or who examines products and makes accept/reject decisions. This requirement includes all assemblers, quality personnel, manufacturing & process engineers, and some test technicians & test engineers, as well as design engineers.
The acceptability requirements of electronic assemblies presented in the IPC-A-610 standard will be studied in complete detail, including the comprehensive acceptance/reject criteria for handling of electronic assemblies, mechanical assembly, component installation, location, orientation, soldering, cleanliness of assemblies, marking of assemblies, coatings, discrete wiring assembly, and surface mount assemblies, etc.

30. IPC-A-610D Certification: - Congratulation to new CIS ~ 27-07-2009
On July 24, 2009, Malaysian Institute of Microsystem (MIMs), SHRDC as IPC Authorized Training Centre successfully awarded seven new IPC-A-610D Application Specialist. Participants were from Panasonic, ISITO and Circle Ring. The course conducted at SHRDC by Nalini Venugopal included paragraph-by-paragraph review of IPC-A-610D and concluded with opened and closed book examination.
According to LP Por, Manager; the main strength of this training was on the manual which illustrated dimensions and photos depicting on the acceptance conditions of Electronic Assembly.
The following individuals have been awarded their IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist Certification, which is valid for two years.

32. SHRDC awarded Training Provider of the Year 2009 by Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources ~ 19-10-2009
October 13, 2009 is one of the greatest moments for SHRDC team as our continuous commitment to excellence in human resource development was awarded with the Human Resources Minister Award for Training Provider of the year (2009) during the Human Resource Development Council Conference in Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
Mr Tham Wai Keong, Chairman of SHRDC and Mr Tan Beng Teong, Executive Director of SHRDC accepted the award which was presented by the Minister of Human Resources, YB Datuk Dr. S. Subramaniam during the event.
This annual conference was organized by The Human Resource Development Council, Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia and the event pulled together the Malaysia’s Human Resource practitioner community from various industries and one of the main highlights of the conference is the award presentation to outstanding employers and training providers.
Having trained over 54,247 employees since our first inception and in recognition of our commitment to deliver high impact, relevant and flexible training programs for every “trainable” working employee in Malaysia, SHRDC was selected as the Training Provider of the Year (2009) by the panel of selection appointed by the Human Resource Development Council.

34. Advanced Certified Interconnect Designer (CID+) class at SHRDC ~ 28-10-2009
Congratulations to all new CID+ @ SHRDC 21-23 Oct 2009
SHRDC congratulates all newly certified CID+. It was an honour to have Mr. Dieter Bergman from IPC ��" US giving the CID+ Workshop & Exam recently.
A total of 12 participants made it for the Training Workshop, including participants from SONY EMC, Motorola, Cadence Design Systems (Singapore), Intel (PG) and Dyson.
With the successful certification of SHRDC’s in-house trainer, CID+ will be offered to Regional South East Asia in the near future 2010. Watch this space!
To qualify for this CID+ Workshop & Exam, participants must have the pre-requisite of CID certification.
